The return of Summer and Kyle was welcomed by fans of this couple. Written away from Genoa City, Wisconsin, in the recent past, the newly married couple is back.
Kyle’s paternity issues are resolved, and he is now facing down Harrison Locke’s (Kellen Enriquez) so-called father while also dealing with the revival of Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters). Summer is Kyle’s key advisor in that matter as well.
The challenge for Kyle is not allowing Summer to call every shot. If that happens, it will be fair to ask if he has matured or reverted to childhood status, where his mother decided all.
The comparison between Diane and Summer is not as far-fetched as it seems on the surface. Devoted viewers recall the lengths Summer was willing to take to pull Kyle away from the then Lola Abbott.
With whatever he may believe, Kyle is adapting to what is his second marriage to Summer, with the first being a forced sham. But today’s Summer has matured, as evidenced by her maternal instincts for a boy that is not her flesh and blood.
Jabot is expanding with the purchase of Marchetti. It was Summer’s idea for Kyle’s family business to purchase the Italian fashion house that had fallen on hard times, which was the plot device TPTB used to plausibly write Summer, Kyle, and Harrison back to GC full-time.
Beyond business, the next natural step would be for Summer and Kyle to have their child. They are in their early 30s, so they have reached a stage in life where a larger family can be handled. Possibly, they could have more than one of their own.
Of course, the Abbott family re-expanded when Diane announced that she was not murdered. Summer’s deft touch with her mother-in-law has been solid to date.
Summer made a compassionate choice when she had her brother, Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei), call their mother. Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) needed a break from the drama that Diane and Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) are again involved in. So, Stafford’s character is said to have flown to see her son.
All has been going well for Summer, who recently had a chat with her nemesis, Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope). And that is the character who implausibly forced Summer (as then played by Hunter King) out of town.
Sally stands ready to stir it up again. Whenever the next opportunity exists or whoever she needs to team with, Summer must always watch her back. She will eventually need Kyle to help keep her grounded, as that is what balanced couples do on Y&R.
