Supernatural had an amazing run, watched by fans for some 15 years, and now a prequel is set to tell the backstory of the Winchesters. It is believed that the new series will open up more about the strange and mysterious lineage of the Winchester family. However, some hope that if it does take off, maybe there is a possibility of a Supernatural reboot in the future.

Supernatural prequel The Winchesters on The CW

Supernatural had an amazingly long run on TV, first with WB and later with The CW. For 15 years, fans watched Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) drive off in their Chevy Impala for yet another adventure. Along the way, the series dabbled a little into the Winchesters back story, but mainly related to Sam and Dean. Meanwhile, while it was popular and was created by Eric Kripke, the series came to an end in 2020.

As noted by Looper, anyone missing stories relating to the supernatural will get a treat in October this year. At that time, The CW is set to premiere The Winchesters, a prequel series about Sam and Dean’s parents, John Winchester (Drake Rodger) and Mary (Meg Donnelly). Meanwhile, the prequel series will reveal more about the family and how Sam and Dean came to be who they are.

Reboots mean a lack of unique ideas?

As fans know, there have been many reboots of popular series and in fact, Padalecki is part of one with his lead role in Walker. However, some fans also believe that rebooting more series means producers have run out of unique ideas.

However, learning more about Sam and Dean’s ma and pa could be something worth watching. Meanwhile, Dean Winchester star Jensen Ackles will not only executive produces, but also returned to narrate a trailer for The Winchesters. The trailer reveals the fateful night when Mary (Meg Donnelly) and John (Drake Rodger) met in 1972 while chasing a monster.

Obviously, fans know well that Mary and John will marry and have kids, which could make the prequel less than worthy to watch. Hopefully, the actual series will move past this reasonably quickly. Moreover, should the prequel do well, maybe a reboot of Supernatural would be in order? In fact, as quoted by CBR, Jensen Ackles told CinePOP in July this year that he believes he and Jared Padalecki might consider a rebooted show.

Watch the trailer for The Winchesters below and let us know if you think it worth watching the series when it premieres on October 11? Do you think the prequel could end up with its own 15-season run? Let us know by dropping a comment below.
