However, Meri just experienced a setback. Find out how her LuLaRoe arrangement sparked a backlash and pyramid scheme allegations! Get the latest Sister Wives news below.
Going on social media to open up your life means taking a risk. And that’s especially true for Sister Wives stars like Meri Brown. Although her goal of making money for herself might earn praise, the reality TV star’s choice to boost her bank account sparked a backlash. Some fans even accused Kody Brown’s wife of using a pyramid scheme, reported the Sun.
The brouhaha began when Meri invited her Instagram followers to place their bets on how she makes money. And some fans enjoyed the game. For instance, one suggested “bartender.” And another joked, “Stripper!” But then the backlash started when a fan alleged that Meri profits through a pyramid scheme involving working for the LuLaRoe clothing company.
And when the 51-year-old Sister Wives star saw the response of “Pyramid Scheme,” she got angry! “Fun fact, a pyramid scheme is when you pay money and you don’t get anything in return,” slammed Meri. “But with LuLaRoe you actually get something in return, and that’s called super cute clothes!”
In the wake of that backlash, Meri Brown might have decided to stay silent. But instead, the Sister Wives diva dug in by responding once more to the question. And for her second round, Meri gathered a room filled with employees to support her.
“So, the real answer as to what do I do for my businesses – I sell LuLaRoe,” began the Sister Wives star. “It’s lots of fun, and on weekends like this I get to come and hang out with all my people. It’s a blast, and I love it, love it, love it.”
However, an Amazon documentary, “LuLaRich,” provided a darker side of the clothing company and its sellers. And that documentary featured sales representatives who alleged that they lost money as a result of having to buy merchandise that they could not sell. But both Meri and Christine Brown have profited by hyping LuLaRoe on their social media platforms.
The allegations of a pyramid scheme stem from a lawsuit filed in 2019 by the Washington state attorney general, per Vanity Fair. That lawsuit alleged that the multilevel-marketing company involved a pyramid scheme that caused thousands to lose millions of dollars. And the state attorney general also claimed that LuLaRoe caused their employees to invest $500 and $5,000 in startup costs in order to “rescu[e] their families during financial crisis.” But that promise allegedly turned into financial disaster!
