Sister Wives: Did Kody And Christine Get Divorced Officially?

Sister WivesDivorced or not divorced, which is it? In an exclusive clip obtained by Entertainment Tonight from the TLC series, Kody Brown and his estranged wife Christine Brown were having a back-and-forth as to whether they’re officially divorced or not.

The clip which featured Kody, Christine, and two of her sister wives Robyn, and Janelle, had Kody saying that he and Christine are not yet divorced. According to Kody, he got to hear that he and Christine were divorced through his daughter Truely. “I was sitting there talking with Truely and she’s like, ‘Well, you and Mom are divorced,’ It was a little bit news to me.”

Kody’s take is that since they didn’t sign any papers and they didn’t notify their church, Christine is still very much married to him as he is to her. “We never made an official agreement. We never signed a paper. We never agreed. We never went to our church leaders and said, ‘Hey, we’re divorced’ or ‘We want a divorce.'”

Sister Wives — Christine’s Take On The Divorce Argument

Christine Brown who called her marriage with Kody Brown quits back in November 2021, and moved out of Australia back to Utah has a different opinion from Kody. Christine argued that her marriage with Kody was never really a legal marriage and neither are they still a member of their church so for all she knows she doesn’t have to sign any paper to be divorced from Kody.

“Since I don’t have any legal contract that binds me with Kody, there was no legal process that we had to go through,” Christine explains. “Neither of us are a part of that religion anymore. So, me just saying I’m divorced? I don’t see the problem in that at all.”

After Kody gave his reason for thinking he’s still legally married to Christine, Robyn and Janelle seem to share the same opinion with Kody. Robyn said, “Usually our church would say you’re divorced, you have to go ask for a divorce. You have to get paperwork, you have to get approval. You have to approve that the marriage is broken.”

Janelle on the other hand said, “Christine saying ‘I’m divorced’ is sort of invalidating our beliefs. We’re spiritually married to Kody by our church,” Janelle says. If we want a divorce, then we have to go get their approval. Usually, they require counseling. Usually, they require lots and lots of meetings. Technically, from my understanding, until Christine is physical with another man, she’s not divorced. But I don’t know.”

Sister Wives — How The World Heard Of Christine And Kody’s Split

The couple’s split was made public in November 2021 via Instagram. Christine told her fans that she has decided to separate from Kody but will still be there for their children.

Kody also confirmed their separation with a post of his own which read, “Christine’s decision to leave comes with a great deal of sadness” before adding that he and Christine “enjoyed many years together, and I have a large amount of respect and admiration for her.
