Meghan Markle Loses First Patronage To The Duchess of Cornwall

Meghan MarkleMeghan MarkleIn early 2020, it was announced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be permanently stepping down from their duties as working senior members of the Royal Family. As a part of the deal, the pair relinquished their patronages. They also lost the right to be addressed as “His” or “Her Royal Highness”.

Previously, Prince Harry lost his Rugby RFU to his sister-in-law Kate Middleton. Now, 74-year-old Camilla, who has a deep love for the arts and theater, has received a new patronage from Her Majesty.

Palace Announces Camilla As The New Patron Of National Theater

After Meghan and Harry’s wedding in 2018, the former “Suits” actress was presented as the patron of the National Theater as a result of her acting past.

However, since the duo stepped down, the position automatically reverted back to Her Majesty who has seen it fit to give it to the Duchess of Cornwall.

Experts are predicting that the move to present the role to Camilla shows how people are more willing to accept her, and how well they received the Queen’s announcement endorsing Camilla to become Queen when Prince Charles takes the throne.

During the pandemic, Camilla was involved in trying to find a way to keep theaters afloat when the country went into lockdown, leaving many people working in the theaters struggling. She’s also the patron of the Unicorn Theater for Children and others.

Rufus Norris, director of the National Theater, said: “The Duchess has shown great support to our industry.”

“The duchess shares our belief that theatre enriches our lives in so many ways and that everyone should have access to the arts and creativity no matter where they are in the world.”

He added: “I would also like to express my thanks to the Queen for Her Majesty’s long and unwavering support and service to the National Theatre.”

Recently, the royal expanded her Instagram book club by launching its official website. Her current titles also include some of the Duchess of Cambridge’s favorite children’s books.
