Days of Our Lives Doug Williams (Bill Hayes) first arrived in Salem in 1970. Williams has appeared in several different stints on the NBC soap opera. Since 1999 Bill has continued to make occasional appearances whenever he was needed. Doug is most often seen during the holiday season each year. Doug was born Brent Douglas in 1926. Doug later changed his name to Doug Williams.

Doug is the father of Hope Brady (ex-Kristian Alfonso). Doug is married to Julie Olsen Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes – Bill’s wife in real life), his former wife Addie Horton’s (Patricia Barry) daughter. Doug was a singer/conman when he met Bill Horton (John H. Martin) in prison. Doug and Julie fell in love but after a fight, Doug married her mother Addie. Addie bought Doug his own restaurant and called it Doug’s Place. Doug and Addie had a good marriage but he was still in love with Julie.

Days Of Our Lives Addie finds out she is pregnant but her joy is short-lived when she is diagnosed with Leukemia. Addie refused treatment because she was afraid of hurting her unborn child. Addie wasn’t expected to survive labor but delivered a healthy baby girl against all odds. Doug and Addie had three months with their daughter before she was hit and killed by a truck. It was years before Doug and Julie would reunite and Hope resented her sister trying to act as her mother.

Days of Our Lives Doug had a massive heart attack after catching his daughter Hope in bed with Bo Brady (ex-Peter Reckell) on her 18th birthday. Hope had to agree to not see Bo again to give Doug a reason to live. Hope and Bo eventually got married and Doug accepted him into the family. However, Doug has been through several health crises as well as Julie. Doug’s most recent battle was for his soul when the Devil possessed him to get to Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall). At 94, Doug barely managed to survive after being locked up in a mental health facility and cut off from his wife.

Doug and Julie have worked through everything that happened because of the possession. Now that Doug is back to his old self, he and Julie can live out their golden years.
