Valentin enters the offices of Crimson Magazine, where he spots Nina and asks her this is how they’re celebrating the nation’s birthday, in a semi teasing way. Valentin continues, telling Nina that he thought when she agreed to meet with him that there’d be hot dogs and a marching band, again being slightly sarcastic. Nina continues to walk towards him, with a file folder in her hand and she explains in like manner the marching band was booked, and she’s super busy!
Nina then tells Valentin that she hears he’s pretty busy too, and then congratulates him on fending off Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) and Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison). Nina also congratulates him on maintaining control of ELQ.
Valentin acknowledges to Nina that he thought she’d be pleased that he shot down the merger of Aurora Media and ELQ, that Michael and Drew had fought so hard for. Nina responds, saying pleased – someone finally told Michael he can’t get everything he wants, and says she’s absolutely pleased; however, that’s not exactly the response Valentin was expecting. Valentin tells her he had been thinking more along the lines of Carly Corinthos, (Laura Wright) referring to her being taken down a generous amount of notches! Valentin, as Nina’s ex-husband, was expecting given everything that Carly had done to Nina, she’d be experiencing a bit more vindictive pleasure in Carly being put in her place!
Carly has been Nina’s worst enemy, and has transferred her hatred of Nina’s late daughter, Nelle Benson (Chloe Lanier) to Nina; and Michael has backed her. Carly has proclaimed long and loud how Nina is a psychotic, deranged creature who should never be allowed to be around children, Wiley Corinthos (Viron Weaver) in particular! Carly’s favorite phrase has been the one about the apple not falling far from the tree, and the vitriol Michael has been displaying proves it in their case!
Valentin knows firsthand the hate that Michael and his mother hold against Nina and the vengefulness they display against her; Nina has made great strides in strength since they were married. That is why Valentin is so surprised that Nina doesn’t want to flaunt Carly’s loss or take advantage of her financially weakened state to strike back!
Valentin isn’t your standard duplicitous Cassadine, always double dealing and seeking revenge – the Cassadines are similar to the Quartermaines in regards to their infighting amongst themselves. That is why Valentin and Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth) understand each other so well, and one big reason Valentin was able to sway him to come over to his side. There is no doubt about it, Carly has been vicious to Nina, and wanted to stab her in the heart if she could get away with it! Valentin has an angry side too, although it doesn’t come out unless his daughter is threatened; he isn’t sure he could be that forgiving if he were in Nina’s place!
