Always thinking he needs to save a woman from herself and everyone else. The world is out to get Esme and soon he’s going to see her as worthy of being let off the hook just because she’s carrying his child. Will the feelings he begins to have for her all be based on a game of manipulation Esme is pulling off, or might she actually care about her baby daddy, too?
As Nik falls for Esme’s act, we might be left wondering where the acting ends and reality begins for Esme. Is it possible that being pregnant has changed her on a fundamental level? Could Esme truly care about the wellbeing of this baby and want to be his or her mother? Might she feel pained by the thought of being sent away to a Greek island where she can’t see her child grow up? Esme might feel particularly threatened if she gets wind of Elizabeth’s pretend pregnancy and miscarriage, alluding to the idea that they may have pretended her baby was Elizabeth’s. Nonetheless, Esme’s affections for Nikolas will grow stronger in the new year.
Esme has been working one angle the entire time Nikolas has had her locked up in the north tower of Wyndemere. She wants to appeal to his softer side. She longs to remind him of the young girl he felt so protective of when he first moved her into his castle and insisted that Ava Jerome Cassadine (Maura West) and everyone else take a seat and give her a chance.
The more Esme reminds Nik that she is the mother of his child, the more he’s going to wonder if raising the baby with her wouldn’t be such a bad idea. Of course, there are logistics to work out, such as how he would keep his baby’s mother out of prison, but if anyone can pull that off, a Cassadine can, right?
Much like Nikolas wants to save Esme from herself and her past mistakes, giving her a clean slate with which she can raise their child and co-parent with him, Elizabeth is going to start feeling a bit too forgiving of this young mother, too. According to General Hospital spoilers, Liz has been pretty committed to not forgetting what Esme did to her son, Cameron ‘Cam’ Webber (William Lipton), but the more she sees Esme struggle to come to terms with the idea of being separated from her child, the more Elizabeth is going to feel for her, mother to mother.
Might she see some stark similarities in Esme that remind her of herself as a young mom-to-be in Port Charles so many years ago when her own parents had abandoned her? Will that cause Liz to have a lapse in judgment and grant Esme more forgiveness than she’s earned? Stay tuned for more General Hospital news and spoilers to find out.
