Martin and Laura had to go into hiding because a contract hit had been put on their lives. Martin and Laura were able to return home in time for the holidays. Martin needed to fill in for Dr. Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom) to be Santa Claus at General Hospital. Martin ended up encountering Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) while helping Kevin.

Martin and Lucy ended up spending the night together. Martin was surprised by the fact that he and Lucy seemed to have much in common. Martin was concerned that Laura and Kevin might not want him with Lucy. Kevin has a complex romantic past with Lucy. Laura assured Martin that she did not have a problem with him wanting to date Lucy. Kevin felt that Martin could be good for Lucy. Martin thought that he would not have a problem if he wanted to explore a relationship with Lucy but he has found a problem with Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart).

Valentin has told Martin that he will not have him as a lawyer if he decides to date Lucy. Martin wants to find a way to keep Valentin as his client but date Lucy.

Martin assured Lucy with the saying that he could have his hummingbird cake and eat it too. Martin was caught off guard when Valentin brought his date Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) to the Savoy to celebrate the coming year.

Martin and Lucy were not able to continue their date at the Savoy. Martin and Lucy were able to leave the Savoy with the help of Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms).
