Since Marshall’s return, he has tried to mend fences with Curtis, and he nearly left town again when the alleged truth came out about why he departed from their lives all those years ago. Marshall has Schizophrenia, and he claims he didn’t want Curtis to know. It was painted as though Marshall was embarrassed and wanted to keep his private medical information to himself; however, as more comes to light about Curtis’ personal health, the narrative might shift.
Curtis didn’t know what to expect from his genetic testing experience, but we’ve received a few subtle hints that Marshall might have known more than he had let on. Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr) went into this as a doctor, so she had a bit more familiarity with what the results might say. She was always expecting Curtis to have inherited some of the markers from Marshall, because it would make the most sense, statistically and genetically. Almost no one gets away with not inheriting any of the markers from a parent. So when Curtis’ results showed such a miracle came to fruition for him, Portia was noticeably stunned. Her reaction wasn’t lost on Curtis, who has continued to ponder how that’s possible, and why his dad left so abruptly after they reviewed the results.
When the truth comes out, it’s going to stun the whole family — except for maybe Portia, who both suspected it and relates to him. Portia is keeping her own secret — that Curtis may be Trina Robinson’s (Tabyana Ali) father, and she doesn’t plan to tell him. When Marshall comes clean and admits he always knew he wasn’t Curtis’ father, Curtis will be furious. How could he abandon him and let him think his own dad didn’t want him when he wasn’t even his dad? How could he come back into his life pretending to be his dad when he isn’t?
Most of all, how could he let him think he may have the markers for a serious illness like Schizophrenia when they aren’t even related? Marshall will try to explain but it may fall on deaf ears until he mentioned Tommy also wasn’t his son. Marshall might not be trying to dredge up the painful past or disparage Curtis’ mother when she’s no longer around to defend herself, but that’s exactly what his explanation will do.
It sounds like Curtis’ mother had an affair, and it might not have been a one-time thing. After she had Tommy, Marshall found out he was not Tommy’s father. The man she stepped out with fathered Tommy, and he and Curtis’ mom and Marshall agreed they wouldn’t tell him. Marshall would raise Tommy as his own and they would keep their marriage and family intact. When Curtis was born, things changed for the better. Marshall thought he had finally had a child of his own until his wife admitted otherwise years later.
Marshall took off because he couldn’t stomach raising two children that were constant reminders of his wife’s affair. Why didn’t Stella Henry (Vernee Watson) tell Curtis the truth ages ago? She’s such a fan of letting sleeping dogs lie. Stay tuned for more General Hospital news and spoilers. This storyline is going to bring a whole lotta drama!
