There’s a good possibility that Elizabeth checked herself out of Shadybrook and came back to work at GH much too soon, assuming that sleeping pills caused her problems. There had been a lot of discussion about Elizabeth’s parents and if they could figure into her problems somehow, possibly long in her past and she’d pushed it down. Finn knew there had to be a reason Elizabeth has always been so antagonistic against them, not even wanting her children to contact them.
Even Dr. Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom) agreed there could be something in Elizabeth’s past connected to something with her parents. They may indeed hold the key to her problems, but every time they were brought up Elizabeth was having none of it.
Even though many of the strange things that happened when Elizabeth was sleepwalking appeared to have to do with grief, in the end they weren’t Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth) related. Elizabeth has to deal with Aiden Spencer’s (Enzo DeAngelis) illness for a few days during Trina Robinson’s (Tabyana Ali) trial but still doesn’t miss any days of work at GH.
It seems like Elizabeth may now be avoiding her issues by throwing herself into her work, much like Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson) did; issues don’t go away by avoiding them. Elizabeth is not healed; and soon it will start to show again; it is likely something that happened so long ago perhaps she truly doesn’t remember. But there are certain things – and apparently, certain people – that trigger her; mentions of her parents are only one.
The loss of Franco may have been an early trigger to Elizabeth’s problems, because when he was alive he made her feel safe. When he died, perhaps her sense of safety died with him, and Peter August (Wes Ramsey) was certainly a factor in not feeling safe; and he never paid for Franco’s death. There was all that time that Elizabeth and Finn had thought that Finn had killed him by throwing him down the stairs, only to find him gone when they looked.
All of these situations probably worked together to undermine Elizabeth’s sense of safety, possibly bringing her to a time in the past where she wasn’t safe. Her parents perhaps dismissed her concerns even if she did tell them what happened; no wonder she’s so mad.
Finn comes to check on Elizabeth while they are at work at General Hospital, and inadvertently triggers a flashback. Elizabeth kind of loses it and doesn’t understand why herself; her childhood friend Dr. Terry Randolph (Cassandra James) takes her off shift and administers a sedative.
Elizabeth has had some kind of panic attack out of the blue and seemed to be reacting to someone not there. Kevin is called and he checks her out also and agreed the sedative Terry administered was the right thing to do. No one is sure what Finn’s appearance did to trigger her, or if it’s him or something he said, but Kevin says whatever she’s repressed should come up soon.
