Previous episodes of General Hospital revealed Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) decided to go forward with her visitation challenge in court. Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) and Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) have already been served with subpoenas to appear in court. Now, Attorney Diane Miller’s (Carolyn Hennesy) task is to prepare a strong argument against Nina, and she’ll play dirty!
Diane knows that Michael has a lot of evidence against Nina from her past, there’s not a lot that can trump a kidnapping! Michael will testify that Nina put Ava Cassadine (Maura West) into labor and went on the run with the newborn! He can document temporary custody of Avery Jerome-Corinthos (Ava and Grace Scarola) when he was married to Kiki Jerome (Hayley Erin)!
The question of whether any child would be safe with a psycho kidnapper is a valid question, although she may also have to subpoena Ava! Diane expects Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) will counter with how Nina has changed since then and what she is now versus then. She also expects without being able to get around HIPAA patient privacy laws she can’t prove Nina’s Shadybrook stays. However, she can bring up more current issues such as her lapses of judgment from her time in Nixon Falls, Pennsylvania. Knowing that Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) and her child would be in danger she didn’t notify police Peter August (Wes Ramsey) showed up!
Diane may have some difficulty proving Nina’s negligence in not revealing Peter looking for Maxie, because it will require witnesses. She knows that Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) won’t testify even though it was Peter who set fire to the Tan-O. However, she may be able to subpoena records from the investigation of the fire if she can get someone to testify as well.
There should be records of Nina herself as well as Phyllis Caulfield (Joyce Guy) telling Nixon Falls authorities Peter committed the arson. Diane may be able to use these records to subpoena Phyllis and she’ll have to tell what she knows.
Diane works on subpoenas and warrants to get the necessary witnesses and documentation to make a strong and effective argument against Nina. She may be able to attack her character as well, making a point of Avery and Donna Corinthos (Arya and Ayla Darmiani) grieving unnecessarily. Who in their right mind would think that kind of selfishness would be appropriate because she was in love with a dream? Nina could very well kidnap Wiley Corinthos (Viron Weaver) or harm him in other ways! Even supervised visitation would not be safe for his mental and emotional health!
Diane knows that it is not a case of custody of Wiley but still a case of fitness of Nina. She has to go at it in a manner as if she were trying to prove Nina an unfit mother because the issues are the same. Wiley is old enough to pick up on tensions between Nina and his parents and that will be one argument.
Nina and Scott may expect things to get down and dirty but Diane will get “downer” and dirtier. She’ll have to in order to win the case for Michael and Willow!
