Previous GH episodes revealed that that the late Shiloh August (Coby Ryan McLaughlin) had many followers, and just because he and Harmony Miller (Inga Cadranel ) died so did the cult. Jason Morgan (Steve Burton ) and Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) took down two locations, one in Port Charles and one in Beecher’s Corners, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t more. Shiloh sold untold numbers of his books, and they were even in the prison libraries; there easily could be a Dawn of Day center in Pautauk.
The mysterious man known only as “M” (uncredited actor) came with a message for Austin; it was time for him to return to the fold. That’s a term usually used either in traditional religious circles or in cults, and a regular church isn’t going to come after their members like M came after Austin.
If this is a Dawn of Day cult that Austin had belonged to, this one obviously has a female leader who is telling Austin he must return. The “gambit” referred to by M seemed to be referring to Austin’s relocation to Port Charles. It originally had been to get his late father Jimmy Lee Holt (Steve Bond) recognized by the Quartermaines, but he decided to stay. If this is a Dawn of Day location, it could have either been in existence when Shiloh was alive, or formed and led by any one of his female groupies. Or, it could have been started and led by anyone who had his book – it was the basis for all his teachings and seminars.
Austin doesn’t want to return, but M seems quite insistent he is there to force him to, and if he doesn’t come willingly, Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) could be in danger. Not only Maxie herself, but her children and family could be targeted by whoever is leading this group, and it seems she wields a lot of power. She obviously controls M and he is acting like a mob enforcer for her; Austin has a choice to make but it doesn’t sound like the choice is really his.
Austin will want to keep Maxie safe, but is dealing with this cult enforcer on his own going to accomplish that? Perhaps Maxie’s parents need to be brought into the loop; surely Mac and Felicia Scorpio (John J. York, Kristina Wagner) could get an investigation started into this cult.
Austin has a Quartermaine relative who could help with this situation – that’s Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison). He knew Shiloh and even though he didn’t remember him because of his amnesia, he remembered enough to want to return the money Shiloh and Tex Owen (uncast character) stole. That’s where Drew was headed when Peter August (Wes Ramsey) and Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) kidnapped him and faked the plane crash in the Gulf of Aden. Drew and Austin could team up and get rid of this cult threat in a heartbeat, if Austin can get Carly Corinthos’ (Laura Wright) claws out of him long enough to do so. If Austin told him what was going on he’d be on board to protect Port Charles and Maxie against another dose of Dawn of Day.
