Dante had given Cody some warnings about the Quartermaines and how to get along with them. This was after Cody told him and Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) about his getting hired as the Quartermaine’s new stable manager. Dante’s mother, Olivia Quartermaine (Lisa LoCicero) had been very impressed with Cody and the two were glad to finally meet, having heard Dante talk about him when he was younger.
When Cody first arrived for his first day he managed to interrupt Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) and Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) in a private moment. But they seemed okay with him after he explained who he was and why he was there, Willow spilling the beans that she was friends with a horse in the past.
Olivia liked Cody just fine the way he is, but Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth) seemed to have some problems with him, apparently experiencing some culture clash. Ned didn’t think his cowboy clothes were professional enough, giving Olivia the impression Ned thought a stable manager wore a suit, but then Ned’s never cleaned a barn. However, they seemed to agree on Cody’s hiring before it was too much longer once they talked it out, but Olivia didn’t grow up rich and privileged like Ned. It’s obvious that Cody and Ned come from two different worlds and have completely opposite ideas; Olivia is a city girl but she understands Cody and allows for his differences.
Dante and Michael happen to work out at Volonino’s Gym, and Dante learns some very interesting information about Cody from Michael; Ned let him go. Ned just couldn’t get past Cody’s cowboy ways and casual dress, and most of all, his casual attitude about authority and Dante’s surprised his mom didn’t tell him. Dante asks Michael for more details, and it turns out that Cody had been giving unauthorized riding lessons on Comet to Leo Falconeri (Easton Rocket Sweda).
Ned didn’t hire him to give riding lessons, he hired him to manage the stable, and he’d taken exception to Cody’s taking Leo’s riding lessons upon himself! Leo wasn’t hurt, but Dante’s upset because Cody didn’t tell him the job didn’t work out!
Dante has words with Cody – he hates Ned fired him for something like that but he warned him and he didn’t listen! Working for an entitled family like the Quartermaines means that it’s a different world and authority has to be respected even if it’s a sometimes unrespectable person like Ned. Where is Cody staying – that job had a place to live with it, room and board and it was perfect for him. But he needs to learn that he is not the boss when he is working for others, and he’ll find out if Olivia even knows Ned fired him! Dante has one other warning for Cody; don’t play games with him, if he’s got a problem Dante wants to know it!
