But why did Jennifer Smith (Holly Gagnier) suddenly show up at the last minute at Luke’s memorial aboard The Haunted Star, and why did she not seem all that upset and who was she telling on the phone that she didn’t get closure, and most importantly, that question about were they done there? General Hospital viewers will agree there are questions that need to be answered!
General Hospital viewers know that Victor Cassadine’s intentions were to draw Luke Spencer out by putting a hit out on Laura Collins (Genie Francis), blame shifting the hit request onto Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober). His first assassin failed, but Victor cancelled it when he found out Luke was “neutralized”, it later being revealed that his henchman Johann Bauer (Max Decker) had apparently carried out the hit on Luke, likely sabotaging the cable car.
But the big question is, who set up who – had Luke gotten wind of the set up and replaced himself with a fake Luke – possibly even the bones that remained of his cousin Bill Eckert (Anthony Geary) after the explosion of the Spencer family’s old home? DNA that old may have shown close relation but it would have been assumed to be the remains of Luke, and would have been perfect to fake his own death! But the more important question for General Hospital viewers is if Luke was himself, or he had reverted to Fluke, his alter – if the real Luke knew Laura was in trouble he’d have responded!
General Hospital spoilers show that while Luke experienced a cathartic recovery of traumatic memories, some filled in by his older sister Pat Spencer (Dee Wallace) before she died, it in itself may not have solved the Fluke problem. It became obvious that Luke had suffered from dissociative identity disorder with all of his unexplained disappearances nearly all being attributable to the emergence of Fluke, his alter.
Luke in his right mind, for instance, would never have formed a close and possibly even semi-romantic relationship with Helena Cassadine, (Constance Towers) although it was obvious that Fluke did! Longtime General Hospital viewers will remember that Luke started out as a mobster, working for Frank Smith (most recently Joe Cortese) whose territory Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) would later take over. That is also how Luke got connected to Jennifer Smith – who was obsessed with him for years; Luke was engaged to Jennifer but dumped her for Laura, and that’s one reason they were on the run for so many years!
General Hospital spoilers tease that Luke, in his right mind, wouldn’t deceive his Spanky by faking his death and even faking an urn of his ashes; General Hospital viewers will recall that was one of his nicknames for Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot). They may have collaborated on the scheme but it’s rather doubtful – what would Tracy have had to gain, other than sympathy, after all; she found out she didn’t even have the right Ice Princess diamond, it apparently having been stolen!
As Fluke, however, anything might be possible, including setting up a brand new mob territory in Cyrus’ old haunts in the Northwest and on the west coast, and possibly even be reconciled with Jennifer! It makes sense that Fluke might be the one who sent Jennifer to his “funeral” and who she was talking to on the phone. Could the Smith mob family, now probably co-led by Jennifer and Fluke be that West Coast threat that Brick (Stephen A. Smith) recently warned Sonny about?
