General Hospital Cassandra James Talks Being Trans and Asian in Hollywood

General Hospital (GH) spoilers and updates reveals Cassandra James has been hard at work not only playing the character of Dr. Terry Randolph on GH but also working assiduously for representation as an Asain American actress.

General Hospital Cassandra James Was part Of A Panel in May

James was a part of a panel team brought together to talk about representation within the AAPI community as it was Asain American and Pacific Islander Month for May. Dotdash Meredith from PEOPLE magazine was the host while Clarissa Cruz from Entertainment Weekly moderated the discussion which inlcuded; John Lee, Devi S. Laskar, Katie Zhao, Benny Luo and James.

This was quite a fitting time to discuss representation for the AAPI community as there was a rise in hate crimes against Asain Americans during the pandemic. Many of us are aware of how heartbreaking things like this can be especially in a time when we should be drawing closer to each other.

General Hospital Cassandra James Talks What Was Said During The Panel

Of course, there was much to be said during the panel event. Fighting for representation, James noted how she quite often felt unseen in her journey for success as an artist.

She noted, “My experience has been pretty lonely and pretty isolated. Absolutely, I do echo what everyone has said, that representation is really, really shifting, but I’m still very used to being the only Asian in the room. I’m certainly the only trans Asian in the room, almost all the time. And I just feel a sense of responsibility and I just want to bring my authentic humanity to what I do. I think sometimes when our identities are politicized, for me as an artist, as an actor, it can be kind of daunting and it’s hard to navigate at times.”

For many who may not know, James has been vocal about representation for those in the transgender community as well. She has fought hard for representation for both communities and we are behing her one hundred percent. We love how she continues to strive not only as actress but an individual with a big heart.
