Shawn believed that he would be able to keep the fact that he had slept with Jan from Belle. Jan had been recruited by the devil when he was possessing Dr. Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall). Marlena while she was possessed was MarDevil. MarDevil wanted to break up Shawn and Belle’s marriage. MarDevil transformed Jan to look like Belle in order to get Shawn to be intimate with her. Belle found Shawn in bed with Jan but he made Belle believe that he had not been with Jan. Shawn found out that Jan was pregnant and wanted to make sure that she was not trying to trick him. Shawn got a paternity test which confirmed that Jan was carrying his child. Shawn found out that the baby could be in danger.

Jan had been in jail when she found out that she needed to be on bed rest until the baby was born. Jan convinced Shawn to help her to get out of jail and be on house arrest at his home. Shawn was able to make the arrangements because he is a police officer. Shawn has been trying to help Jan because he knows that she has a high-risk pregnancy. Shawn does not want to lose his child. Shawn is finding out that Jan wants to be a good mother to their child.
