Now that Jan has given birth to Shawn Christian Brady (uncast infant) she has all the reason in the world to make “Shawn, me, and baby makes three” a permanent situation! Jan knows that she’s got the rest of a prison sentence to serve but for right now, she has gotten a reprieve, after the warden was convinced the baby needs her. Jan is nursing her baby so prison diets and filthy surroundings were not a healthy environment in which to pump her breast milk!
Baby Shawn is extremely fortunate his father has pull with the prison officials. Usually prison babies wind up either in orphanages or grow up in a succession of foster homes.
Hearing that Belle Brady (Martha Madison) spent the night elsewhere gives Jan hope for a future with Shawn; just the fact that he worked for that shows he cares. His admission that his efforts to keep Jan from having to go back to prison upset Belle enough for her to spend the night elsewhere than her parents’ home is great! Jan figured that her moving into Shawn and Belle’s home and then having her baby and hanging around for a while would break them up, but she didn’t expect this! Neither did Shawn, and he’s pretty sure Belle is sleeping with EJ DIMera (Dan Feurreriegel) and he is very hurt over it – meaning Jan can pick up the pieces! In Jan’s eyes, they are already becoming closer friends and it can only go further from there – he’s confiding his pain in her!
Jan can definitely see a future together for her and Shawn, with his falling in love with her just as much as she has been with him for years and years! The more favors he does for her, the nicer he is, and the more he confides in her she knows his bond to her is getting deeper. No one can convince her that she is just misreading his being a nice guy who was raised right and that he’s merely being a gentleman!
Jan sees real love in Shawn’s attentiveness and his willingness to go out of his way to make her comfortable. He is excited about being the father to a little boy, even though he always loved his daughter with Belle, Claire Brady (Olivia Durant).
The only thing Jan is worried about now is that pesky prison sentence – there has to be something about letting new mothers out early! If there is exception made for nursing mothers maybe she can drag that out until her baby boy is at least a toddler-that might give her more years of freedom! She has to think of some kind of allergy to come up with as a reason that he cannot drink commercial formulas; if nothing else maybe something else will happen. Perhaps prison overcrowding will allow for early paroles by the time the baby is walking! At least she can always hope!
