Days of Our Lives spoilers reveal that soaps love to redeem characters. However, DOOL takes it to extremes. Head writer Ron Carlivati enjoys redemption stories, including for characters that seem unredeemable. Sometimes fans buy it and sometimes they don’t. With Gwen Rizczech (Emily O’Brien), she has been boxed in a corner and there’s only one way to save the character.

Days Of Our Lives Spoilers – Resenting Abigail DiMera

DOOL spoilers reveal that when Gwen first came to Salem, she interacted with Claire Brady (Olivia Rose Keegan/Isabel Durant) in Bayview psychiatric hospital. Gwen turned out to be an old girlfriend of Jake DiMera’s (Brandon Barash) and then got a job taking care of Abigail DiMera’s (Marci Miller) children.

Soon, fans discovered that Gwen had ulterior motives in getting close to Abigail. Gwen was Jack Deveraux’s (Matthew Ashford) love child that he never knew about. Gwen hated Abigail for having their father growing up and did everything she could to destroy her life.

At one point, Gwen even drugged Abigail. Dr. Wilhelm Rolf (William Utay) promised Gwen that the drug would melt Abigail’s brain. When Abigail recovered, then Gwen went after Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) and got pregnant with his child.

DOOL Spoilers – Relationship with Jack Deveraux

Jack tried to reach out to Gwen and build a relationship with her. This was the writers’ chance to change the character. Villains are created when someone is deeply hurt or craves love but can’t seem to get it. So, with Gwen’s issues, the relationship with Jack should have changed her for the better. While the writers seemed to be going in that direction, Gwen kept doing all the wrong things.

Days Of Our Lives Spoilers – Missed Chance Of Redemption

Days of Our Lives spoilers reveal that writers again had a chance to redeem Gwen by giving her a love story. In soaps, villains can turn around when they find true love. Gwen seemed well on her way to feeling remorse and earning redemption when she was paired with Xander Cook (Paul Telfer).

That would soon be destroyed once Gwen became tied to Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) and Ava Vitali’s (Tamara Braun). Now Gwen has impersonated Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) and participated in getting Abigail shipped off to a deserted island.

DOOL Spoilers – Death Only Way Out?

The writers made the mistake of writing Gwen into a corner and now there is no possibility of redemption. There could have even been a story in which Gwen saved Abigail from the deserted island, perhaps even sacrificing her own life for her sister’s. That would have given Gwen redemption for everything she’s done while eliminating the character at the same time.

However, writers don’t seem to be going in that direction. Gwen has now done so many bad things that it seems there is no way out for her character. Even though O’Brien admitted to feeling sorry for her character, fans have never warmed up to Gwen. It seems there is only one way out for Gwen and that’s death.
