Even though Belle Brady’s (Martha Madison) horror is understandable, she seems to forget that Shawn was a victim of assault. It was hard enough for Shawn to admit what happened, but Belle could be setting him up for a mental health crisis.

DOOL spoilers reveal that Jan told Belle about her pregnancy. Belle didn’t believe Jan at first until she felt the baby bump. Then, Jan informed Belle that the baby belonged to Shawn. Even though Belle was in disbelief, Shawn confessed to actually doing the deed with Jan. Then, a paternity test confirmed Shawn is the father of the unborn child.

Belle is reeling over the news and her anger is understandable. However, Shawn didn’t willingly sleep with Jan. Marlena Evans aka “MarDevil” (Deidre Hall) made Jan look exactly like Belle. Shawn tried to test “Jan-Belle” to make sure he wasn’t being deceived by the devil. When she passed all the tests, Shawn took “Jan-Belle” to bed to celebrate their first wedding anniversary.

Shawn was tricked and is actually the victim of sexual assault. However, Belle keeps forgetting this and is taking verbal digs at Shawn. Basically, Belle is victim-shaming.

Right now, Shawn needs support and therapy to get through being assaulted by Jan and the baby bombshell. If Shawn tried to deny to himself what happened, then it clearly has a profound effect on his mental health.

Actor Brandon Beemer spoke to Soap Opera Digest about the storyline. The actor said,

“Belle feels like she’s been betrayed. She is Shawn’s best friend and his partner in life. But Shawn doesn’t think Belle understands what it felt like to be in that situation… Shawn was technically raped by Jan.”

With Belle walking away from her husband and the victim, Shawn might not know where to turn. Ciara Brady Weston (Victoria Konefal) has her own problems with the devil. Plus, Hope Brady (formerly played by Kristian Alfonso) is MIA. So, Shawn doesn’t really have a strong support system. Belle and her family are Shawn’s support system, but it seems the detective might be forced to deal with this alone.

That can have a devastating effect on Shawn’s mental health. How will Shawn deal with this and could he go through a mental health crisis?
