Xander (Paul Telfer) has only ever been even somewhat of an upstanding individual when he was with Sarah. When he believed Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) left him, he went on a months’ long bender that saw him bedding and marrying Chanel Dupree (Raven Bowens), while also falling into bed with Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker). On payment from Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney), he even revealed the truth to Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan) on his and Nicole’s first wedding anniversary.

And now he is in love with a fellow schemer. There is a reason that Xander and Gwen (Emily O’Brien) work so well together. Aside from the matching accents, they both will do anything to cover up their mistakes and come with devious minds that never stop working. But, they also have their own vulnerabilities they are only able to show one another.

While Xander is now with Gwen because he still believes Sarah doesn’t love him, she might be the right woman for him in the end if he can forgive her lies. After all, he pulled off a baby switch to make Sarah love him and didn’t tell her that the baby she gave birth to died. Gwen can always explain she put on that Sarah mask out of her own insecurities.

And then there is poor Sarah, believing Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) wants to keep her safe on that island and talking about a “him” that we do not believe is Xander. Surely, something more is going on with her than meets the eye.

But eventually, she will make her way back to Salem and Xander will learn the truth about what happened to her and what Gwen did. And he will resent Gwen because Sarah was the first woman who ever made him feel he was worth something and could be a better person. They complemented each other well and were a very popular pair, but a long time has passed. Is the magic still there for Xarah or does Xander now belong with Gwen.
