Chrisley Knows Best stars Todd and Julie Chrisley face up to 30 years in prison after their conviction for bank fraud and tax evasion. Of course, their fans are appalled, and really hope that some miracle happens and they clear their name. Initially, their sentencing date was set for October 6. But now, the news arrived that it has been delayed.
Right after their conviction in Atlanta, their team announced that they intended to appeal. Actually, it was a case with a lot of evidence, but some folks felt sure that the main witness might have lied. After all, Mark Braddock, a former employee got off any charges for testifying for the defense. So, Todd’s attorneys suggested that Braddock had committed the fraud whilst pretending to be Todd after he was fired by him. In the meantime, it’s a very stressful time for the family.
News that the Chrisley Knows Best stars had filed a motion for an appeal came at the end of August. At the time, it seemed that Todd’s legal team had hit on something worth using to appeal the case. While they are confined to their home, work went on behind the scenes to examine all the evidence. And, it emerged that one witness apparently contacted their accountant and retracted the evidence given in court. We can only guess that it must have been a Bingo! moment.
This week, People Magazine shared the news that the sentencing date had been “Pushed back.” Todd and Julie Chrisley will now wait until “Nov. 21 according to a new document obtained by PEOPLE.” As previously reported, the motion to appeal referred to the employee, IRS Revenue Officer Betty Carter. Reportedly, she allegedly lied about the outstanding taxes that the USA Network stars owed. And, it was allowed as evidence. Clearly, that could have influenced the jury.
The outlet also noted that the Chrisley Knows Best couple feel their “Fourth Amendment rights” were violated. If you think that the legal team might be scratching for reasons to get their motion heard, it turns out that they were onto something. The court documents cited by People said, “The Government does not object to this request.” Additionally, it also said, “For good cause shown, the Court GRANTS this motion.”
Chrisley Knows Best stars Todd and Julie Chrisley are certainly not out of the woods yet. And, appeals can take a long time. However, the sentencing delay does mean that they get more time to put their affairs in order. Additionally, it gives the legal team more time to work on their appeal.
