Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley now face a challenge. Can the Chrisley Knows Best stars change their expectations of what the future holds in the wake of their conviction? Insiders talked with Us magazine about the couple’s reaction to getting convicted of tax fraud and evasion.
“The entire family is devastated about the verdict,” shared one source about Todd, 53, and Julie, 49. And that devastation in part stems from losing control over their carefully planned lives. Because of what the jury ruled, the Chrisley Knows Best clan has to figure out a way to regroup.
“Any future planning in Todd and Julie’s life is pretty much on pause until they learn of the sentencing in the fall. It’s horrible news and they were not expecting to be found guilty. Their whole life changed in that moment,” summed up the insider.
The trial lasted for weeks, and the couple felt shocked to learn the jury’s ruling. Todd and Julie got convicted as being guilty on every count. That included 12 counts of tax evasion, bank and wire fraud and conspiracy in 2019. However, Todd tried to blame the Chrisley’s ex employee, Mark Braddock, for the charges. But Todd’s attempt to point to Braddock as trying to get revenge failed.
While the Chrisley Knows Best stars may wish they could resume their normal lives, insiders explained why they can’t fulfill that desire. Todd and Julie got ordered to stay on house arrest inside their Nashville home. And in some ways, the two feel like the clock has rolled back to the lock-down from the COVID-19 pandemic, shared one insider.
As a result of the conviction, the Chrisley’s lawyer noted that the couple feels “disappointed in the verdict.” And they do plan to appeal. However, while they wait to see what happens next, their reality TV show remains in limbo, according to the source.
“They aren’t sure what this means for the future of Chrisley Knows Best and all their other projects that were in the works,” shared the insider. “No one knows what’s going to happen or what to do at this stage.” Because the verdict arrived prior to starting production on season 10 of the show, no one knows when filming can resume.
“Them being in home confinement puts a huge wedge between filming anything outside of their home,” pointed out one source. “It’s like 2020 again for them when the pandemic hit and they were forced to stay home.” But Todd and Julie do have their children Chase, 26, and Savannah, 24, to support them, added the source. “Savannah and Chase are super close with their parents and are truly at their beck and call during this time.”
