British Royal News says that there’s a reason why Prince William and Kate Middleton are now more comfortable than ever before to show a little public display of affection. That’s because things are apparently a little less stressful now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are no longer in the picture. Here’s what you need to know.

According to a new report, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are feeling that they have more “freedom” to be themselves now that Harry and Meghan are living their own lives thousands of miles away in California. At least, that’s what royal author and expert Duncan Larcome believes.

Speaking to Closer magazine in a new interview, Larcome put it this way, “Their relationship has always been about William as a person and not a future king. Now she’s been elevated in a huge way – as a future queen – and the royal family’s different roles are evolving.”

He also added, “Their PDAs are a big sign of their part in modernizing the royals and that means letting the public in. We have seen more displays of affection in the last year than the last 10 years put together. William and Kate have always been a very affectionate couple.”

As many royal fans might remember though, it was Prince Harry and Meghan Markle who were the first ones to show a little kiss on the cheek in public and were also the first ones to hold hands during their royal engagements, much to the surprise of everyone around them. Before Meghan even came onto the scene, Prince William and Kate Middleton were very distant with one another. And that wasn’t because there were problems in their marriage, but rather because they were just following all of the strict royal protocols about not showing affection in public.

So far Buckingham Palace has not made any comments about the PDA, although it’s doubtful anything will be said.
