The Voice coach Blake Shelton has been there since the beginning in 2011, but has decided it is time to leave after season 23.
Country music star Blake Shelton has been with The Voice on NBC since its start in 2011. However, the longest-tenured coach is finally stepping away from the show after season 23. Fans will no doubt miss Blake and find it hard to watch the show without him, but he does have his reasons. Read on to find out why The Voice coach is choosing to leave the show.
After being with the singing competition since its inception in 2011, Blake Shelton has decided it is time to call it quits after season 23. He said in a statement on his Instagram that he has been wrestling with this for a while. However, Shelton has decided it is time for him to step away from The Voice after the upcoming season 23.
Moreover, Blake explained how the show has changed his life in every way, but for the better and it will always feel like home for him. He said:
It’s been a hell of a ride over these 12 years of chair turns, and I want to thank everyone at The Voice from NBC, every producer, the writers, musicians, crew and catering people, you are the best.
Shelton also explained that it takes a lot of “work, passion, and adult beverages” to pull off a live show twice a week. He said he has made lifelong bonds with Carson and all the other fellow coaches over the years. This, of course, includes his lovely wife, Gwen Stefani.
Blake said he has to give a “huge shout out” to the singers, the ‘Voices’ that came on stage season after season. He explained how they amazed them with their talent and particularly thanked those who chose him to be their coach.
Shelton ended his statement, saying:
Lastly, it’s about y’all, the fans, who watch and support these artists, us coaches and everyone at The Voice chasing their dreams. It wouldn’t happen without you!
When The Voice debuted on NBC in 2011, Blake Shelton was one of the four original coaches. He stood alongside Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green. However, Green left the show after season 5 and Aguilera after season 10. Meanwhile, Levine stuck with the NBC show until season 16, leaving in 2019.
In fact, Blake has coached each season of The Voice from the beginning and eight of his singers won the grand prize. Meanwhile, after NBC renewed the show for season 23, which airs next spring, some new coaches are joining The Voice. In fact, Niall Horan and Chance the Rapper will join veterans Kelly Clarkson and Shelton on the coaching panel. In season 22, Shelton coached alongside Camila Cabello, John Legend and Stefani.
