As teasers have been indicating, Steffy will be taking a leave from Los Angeles, California. Wood recently gave birth to her third child, which means that her maternity leave will likely extend for a while.
Meanwhile, John Finn Finnegan (Tanner Novlan) is in a comatose, not a cremated state, as Steffy and everyone else believes. How long he will be living in that bubble is a great question as the final weeks of spring unfold.
Counting backward and ahead, Wood likely left the cast in the last few weeks. As was true during her other maternity leaves, the actor may have recorded advanced scenes that allow Steffy to sporadically appear in scenes.
Video chats or presumed indoor location shots can create the appearance of currency as the summer arrives. Those scenes can be contrasted with the room where Li Finnegan (Naomi Matsuda) is keeping her ailing son.
A late-summer return to California could be predicted, with Steffy learning the truth by that point in the plot. But this story line could stretch into the fall depending upon timing.
Steffy has been on quite the soapy ride since she first met Finn. Devoted viewers recall that Steffy’s motorcycle accident scenes were delayed by a handful of months during the production shutdown due to the worldwide virus that enveloped the world a few years ago.
Saved scenes were shown when new episodes were broadcast in the latter part of summer. Steffy was in a crash, the second serious accident of her riding career, and was rushed to the hospital.
But the soapy silver lining involved Finn being assigned to her case. They fell in love at first sight, began a romantic relationship shortly thereafter, had a child, and were eventually married. Then, on their wedding day, Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) appeared in the Forrester guest house and announced that she was Finn’s birth mother.
Finn was assumed to have died, or at least Sheila and Steffy believed he did. But just as good fortune caused Steffy to be taken to the hospital where Finn was on call, so too was he transported to the emergency ward where his adopted mother, Doctor Finnegan, was working.
The reality of his survival is classic soap. Fans are thrilled he survived because they embraced his character, pairing him with Steffy and the family they formed.
The bubble Li has her son living in must eventually be uncovered unless she is compelled to seek additional treatment in a standard facility. However it happens, Steffy will learn her husband is alive. How joyous that reunion will depend upon Finn’s eventual physical and mental state.
