Sheila is presumed dead, which is not a first-time occurrence. Many weeks before Halloween, she reappeared on-screen in disguise. Her target was Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan), with the Lina getup completely fooling him.
Hardcore fans will find Sheila’s nurse’s outfit and her various verbal jabs hilarious. They will also delight in seeing classic Sheila flashback scenes.
Soap fans know that Brown debuted as Sheila on sister show, The Young and the Restless, in 1990. Sheila famously crossed over to B&B in 1992 after kidnapping her mother and Lauren Fenmore Grainger (Tracey Bregman), with Lauren’s spouse being Scott Grainger Senior (Peter Barton) at that time in the plot.
A fire was presumed to have taken Sheila’s life, but her body was not found. Crossover fans later saw Brown’s Y&R character appear on B&B. She was hired by Eric Forrester (John McCook) as a Forrester Creations’ nurse.
Brooke Logan Forrester (Katherine Kelly Lang) was married to Eric, with Sheila eventually supplanting her and establishing Lang’s character. Brooke became one of Sheila’s nemeses, along with Stephanie Forrester (Susan Flannery) and others.
Bregman’s crossover to B&B re-established what remains as Sheila’s greatest rivalry, with Lauren soon set to touch down in LA in November.
Sheila accidentally shot one of her five children, John Finn Finnegan (Tanner Novlan), while purposely trying to shoot the late Stephanie’s granddaughter and Finn’s wife, Steffy Forrester Finnegan (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood). That chaos led to Sheila’s escape from the alley behind Il Giardino, that she made look like a botched robbery.
Devoted fans recall that Sheila returned to B&B in 2017, in what was her first re-appearance since 2003. Those who knew Sheila in LA believed her to be dead, as Lauren was presumed to have shot her in Genoa City, Wisconsin, in 2007.
Brown’s return to B&B was explained to the fans through character’s questions. Y&R fans and crossover viewers of both soaps saw Lauren shoot the woman who claimed to be Sheila. Brown’s reprisal meant that the secondary character Michelle Stafford (an assumed Sheila with radical facial surgery) played (in addition to her main role as Phyllis Summers) was not Sheila.
Brown’s original edition dismissed the assumptions about her death, claiming to have no knowledge of them. Fans who were watching and had good memories recalled that Brown’s character went to a plastic surgeon after surviving a cave-in.
Sheila easily ranks with the greatest of daytime villains on any soap opera. Brown’s consistently stellar work across the decades will hopefully result in an overdue Emmy eventually being awarded.
The Halloween episode, Sheila’s current months-long storyline, her presumed dead status, and Lauren’s pending arrival in LA indicate that something monumental is coming. That could mean something as direct as Lauren having a discussion with Eric about Sheila’s death, and then Bregman’s character discovering she is alive.
Everyone can offer speculation regarding another escape in the making or if the final days of Sheila are approaching. But can B&B and Y&R’s greatest witch ever truly meet her end?
Soap fans who appreciate a legendary character and the actor who portrays her hope not.
