Finn is feeling himself getting stronger every day since beginning to emerge from the months-long coma he was in; he’s told he has a spinal injury but he doesn’t feel it. There is no paralysis that he can tell, or any of the other telltale signs other than that of not using his legs for a couple of months. But the one thing he feels the strongest is not physical, but emotional; he must find Steffy Forrester Finnegan (Jacqueline Macinnes Wood) and tell her he’s alive.
But before he can do anything like that, he has to get away from his psychotic birth mother Sheila, and he has to fight back against her control. She is there every minute of every day and the only time she leaves is if her accomplice is there; but it looks like he’s gone now.
Finn was hoping that the guy, Mike Guthrie (Ken Hanes) would help him; he begged him to throw Sheila under the bus and help him escape. But it looked like he was too afraid of her to cross her; he could tell they had a history going a long time back. However, Mike did seem sympathetic to him, although he apparently was much more sympathetic to Sheila. He’d tried to get her to run away with him and just leave Finn alone – Finn had pretended to be asleep when they were talking. But some way, somehow, Finn has to get Sheila distracted so he can unhook himself from all the medical devices but he has to turn off the heart monitor first.
Arguments with Sheila are becoming more frequent and he is realizing just how disturbed she really is, “disturbed” putting it mildly. Then she tells him about how his adopted mother, the only mother he had known, Li Finnegan (Naomi Matsuda) died – claiming her death was an accident. Finn, after recovering from the shock and Sheila’s gory details of Li’s car going off the road and exploding, landing in the water, grieves.
Finn doesn’t know whether to believe Sheila that Steffy and the children are alive and all right – he remembers Sheila shooting her after he jumped in front and was shot himself. He wishes he could get to Li’s laptop he sees on a table not far from the bed and do some research.
Sheila is distracted and goes out of the room for a few minutes, and he knows this is his big chance. He disconnects the electrical line going to the heart monitor and pulls off the electrodes from his chest. Time is tight as she could come back in the room any minute; she comes back in and screams to get back in the bed, he’s not well enough to leave! He doesn’t care, and they get in a physical struggle; but unfortunately he can’t fight her off in his weakened state. Sheila then pulls out a syringe, probably the one with the sedative in it and stabs him; he falls back on the bed.
