As a way to mark Her Majesty’s massive Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the Palace has announced a nationwide baking competition. The best of all the submitted recipes will highlight the celebrations.

To qualify for the competition, participants will have to be U.K. residents aged 8 and over.

All We Know About The Platinum Pudding Competition

The Big Lunch and Fortnum & Mason are inviting applications from people of all walks of life, who reside in the United Kingdom, to submit their perfect pudding recipe.

Think your pudding recipe deserves the chance to go down in history as the Platinum Pudding, then all you need to do is to follow a few simple steps.

One, and it’s probably the most important, albeit simple, bit: “Keep it simple. Don’t try to include too many different flavors, or textures into one dish.”

The second rule encourages you to think “subtle and elegant” rather than “fussy and over complicated”.

They also want you to make your pudding “that treat” that’s unforgettable, fun and plain wonderful. The recipe will be enjoyed by thousands of people, and will probably keep being so for hundreds more years to come, so get the sugar and the umm… stuff and pour…(sorry, I will certainly not be sharing my recipe, however awful it may be).

Of course you may already know this, but I must add that “a good pudding should be joyful and celebratory, and make people smile.”

How to Make Your Potential “Platinum Pudding” Taste Right

Apart from being invited to be at the center of the celebrations, your pudding creation will get the chance to be served up at street parties and other celebrations up and down the country. If that’s not enough for you to fire up your oven and start throwing stuff together, I don’t know what else will get you to do so.

To be clear, you won’t get the chance to boast about being the creator of the Platinum Pudding recipe if you do not win, so here are a few tips to keep in mind as you have fun perfecting your pudding recipe.

Your pudding needs to be easy enough for people everywhere to recreate at home. You’re encouraged to use ingredients and kitchen equipment normally found in the kitchen rather than “fancy gadgets and rare flowers.”

Keep in mind that only five participants will make it into the “live bake” of the final round, so you need to make sure the ingredients list is 100% accurate, as “even a degree of imprecision will affect the flavor”.

Last but never the least, your pudding should be delicious.
