Yes, the events of September 8 came as a shock for so many people around the world. First, many royal fans were offering prayers for the Queen, whom many suspected wasn’t feeling fine because close members of her family were rushing to be by her side.
For me, scrolling through Twitter at around 5 o’clock (UK time), I wasn’t worried the Queen was going to die. I mean, yeah, we’ve had a fair share of health scares over the last year or so, this one ought to be one of those, right?
I read through people’s thoughts and prayers for Her Majesty (sorry, I can’t say “late” yet), and before I knew it, I was staring at a caption shared by Fox News on Twitter (yes, as fate may have it, I actually learned the news of the Queen’s death from Fox News). I wasn’t about to believe it.
At first I was angry. I thought the writer had mistaken “ill” with “dead”, and was about to write a strongly worded comment, before I discovered that the post was shared by one of the royal reporters I was following. They couldn’t be wrong now, can they? I screamed, and rushed up my Twitter feed. I saw the news again on BBC and started crying. Literally.
It took a while for me to reasonably write this, but the world still feels funny whenever I remember that Queen Elizabeth (who we shall henceforth refer to as “The Great”) is no more.
Here are the icons who shared heartfelt tributes to our beloved Queen.
Musicians Who Shared Candid Tributes to the Queen
At this moment, it’s safe to say that anyone worthy of paying the Queen a touching tribute has done so. From Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, right down to Ellie Goulding and Harry Styles.
Ellie Goulding promised to put her son Arthur to sleep with wonderful stories of Her Majesty, and Harry Styles, like Harry Styles does, paid a special tribute during his live show.
If you consider Dwayne Johnson a musician, which he technically is (he’s got a “Moana” soundtrack to prove it), then I guess it’s worth noting that he sent his condolences to the Royal Family and the Brits as they mourn their Queen.
The one and only Celine Dion, in two different languages, paid tribute to the Queen, calling her “a graceful, elegant, and kind woman”.
We can’t end this list without including the legendary country singer, Dolly Parton, who honored the Queen for her long and gracious reign. Annie Lennox didn’t care to concise her feelings and wrote a short story, which, I know, royal fans deeply appreciated.
All The Politicians Who Paid A Tribute To Queen Elizabeth Following Her Death
I can’t get into this right now. Off the top of my head, British PM Liz Truss paid a touching tribute to Queen Elizabeth and helped usher in the era of King Charles the III. The former PM Boris Johnson did not disappoint with his tribute, which was terribly touching. Keir Starmer and many other British Politicians also shared their condolences to the Royal Family.
Across the ocean, US President Joe Biden wrote a lovely message about the Queen and how her wisdom helped build relations between the US and the UK. Former presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump also sent in their condolences.
From across the globe, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, French President Emmanuel Macron, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, shared moving messages about the Queen.
Last, but never the least, Paddington Bear got to reiterate his famous last words from the Platinum Jubilee skit: “Thank you ma’am, for everything”.
