Natalie’s mom, Nelia appeared in season 7 and the beginning of season 8 of the reality series. Although Natalie didn’t give much information about her family, it was revealed that she’s an only child and so when she left Ukraine in exchange for America, her mom is now living alone in her home country.
Nelia became a fan-favorite when she shared moments with Natalie’s now estranged husband Mike. Unlike Natalie’s former mother-in-law Trish, Nelia was very welcoming to the American citizen when he visited Ukraine. She was very supportive of him back then to be Natalie’s husband and was convinced he was good of her. Although it was hard for her to see her only child go, Nelia didn’t stop Natalie from her American dreams so she can have a better life here, which includes starting her own family with Mike.
Natalie faced deportation fears after her split with Mike but the celebrity remains to live in Florida and although she’s safe here, she fears for her mom with the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. The 90 Day star finally shared relieving news that her mother is now safe on her Instagram story on Monday.
“My mom is safe from today morning, she made it to Europe with some other families,” she wrote. “Unfortunately, my all friends are locked at that hell … every night they telling me that they gonna die. I’m suffering with my people,” she added.
This came after her followers bashed Natalie for not directly addressing the situation when she shared Instagram Reels on roller skates and captioned the post too far from the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine. “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm,” the star wrote and used the timely hashtags “#saveukraine” and “#ukrainian #lives #matter.”
Aside from Natalie, another 90 Day participant Varya Malina was previously slammed by viewers for showing no concern about the Russian invasion.
However, Varya broke her silence on Instagram and shared a lengthy pose where she revealed that the situation affected her relationship with Natalie.
Although Varya edited her original post which had her explanation about her fight with Natalie, a redditor named u/cioccolato was able to screenshot it.
In her original caption, Varya revealed that they were together when they found out about the Russian invasion in Ukraine and the emotional moment turned into a big fight.
“But thanks to our common sense, we figured everything out and still have respect for each other,” she wrote. She also shared that Natalie had two sleepless nights trying to save her mom who was still in Kyiv at that time.
The edited post only now has the part in which she admitted to having received hate and attacks from toxic people who disagreed about her opinion on the situation, sadly her friends were some of them. “As a Russian myself I predicted getting a lot of hate for the place I was born and the government I never elected,” she shared.
Varya talked about how she felt about Russians becoming an outcast now, especially for immigrants whose visas are being canceled and children being bullied.
“When we say Ukrainians and Russians are one people we literally mean it, because many of us have family in both countries. Consequently, right now families are divided by these power hungry politicians,” she continued.
“… Pray for Ukraine and be kind to us who aren’t a part of this,” she pleaded while using the hashtags #notowar #prayforukraine #stopthewar #russiaukraine #stopwar #freeukraine
