90 Day Fiancé star Angela Deem and her daughter, Skyla Deem recently announced that Skyla had won a legitimation case against her ex. In fact, Barry Gene Burch lost his side of the case over Angela’s grandchildren, thanks to their attorney C. Lewis Tippett.
A win for 90 Day Fiancé star Angela Deem’s daughter Skyla
Angela Deem’s daughter, Skyla, was in court recently on a legitimation case against her ex, Barry Gene Burch. Skyla and Barry share five children together, which fans have seen on 90 Day Fiancé. Burch is currently incarcerated and, according to Georgia law, legitimation is the only legal action the father of a child born out of wedlock can take to establish legal rights. However, the father could gain legitimation over his children should he marry the mother of their shared child. Skyla was represented by celebrity attorney, C. Lewis Tippett.
According to a document obtained by In Touch, as Burch is currently behind bars, he was not able to attend the hearing on August 8 in person. However, his lawyer was there on his behalf. During the case, Skyla made an oral motion to dismiss the case for lack of prosecution. This resulted in a win after the Georgia judge granted the dismissal “without prejudice.”
Angela applauds the win on TikTok and Instagram
After the court adjourned, Angela took to Instagram to let fans know that Skyla had won a legal battle on August 8. However, her fans assumed the legal problems were related to her Nigerian husband, Michael Ilesanmi.
In the video, included here via TikTok, Angela, Skyla and their attorney are smiling broadly at the camera. Meanwhile, in the background, the song All I Do is Win plays. Deem captioned the post, writing:
THANK YOU @LEW TIPPETT ON FB #CROWNAKINGTODAY#KINGOFLAW best ATTORNEY IN SOUTH GA GOD IS GOOD.
It was clear from the comments that her followers were confused over the post. One wrote, “Oh no. Did you divorce Michael?” Another asked, “I think I missed something, what case did you win? Love you Angela, you’re a queen!!” The video, shared on TikTok is included here:
@angeladeem1.27 Queens victory
Further down in the comments, another fan wrote, “You’re the bomb Angela I love you congratulations to whatever you won.”
Angela’s lawyer explains the case
Speaking to In Touch, Angela’s lawyer, C. Lewis Tippett, explained what happened in court. He told them he wasn’t aware of the Instagram post referenced. However, Tippett said that judging by the date and the photo, he presumes Angela was referring to Skyla’s legitimation case, involving her grandchildren. The lawyer said:
I was able to gain a dismissal of this case and the father will not be able to legitimate the children.
Tippett said that once the judge approves the legitimation, the next steps are the issues of child support, custody and visitation rights. He added:
In this case, the matter was dismissed before the judge approved legitimation, so the other issues were not reached.
Hopefully, Angela’s daughter, Skyla and the children will receive fair child support from their legal father.
