Alina and Caleb were online friends for 13 years before the couple finally met in Turkey. However, Caleb didn’t exactly make the right moves from the start. Almost the first thing he said to Alina was that she was shorter than he imagined. Following that, he seemed a little annoyed about looking after her, especially her wheelchair.
Instead of looking excited to meet Alina after so many years, he turned out to be overwhelmed to find out how challenging it can be to date a little person. It was clear that Alina needed some affection from the Arizona native, but all he wanted to do was sleep. This has led fans of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days to believe that the relationship won’t work out. Meanwhile, many fans also believe that when a non-disabled person dates a person with a disability, they will need to be their full-time caregiver.
After noting fans’ concerns, Alina went on Instagram to clarify the situation. In her length post, she wrote that yes, some help might be needed, but she added that there is always a choice. The 90 Day Fiancé star explained that people can hire professional help if they have the money and are not able to be with their partners all the time. Alina added that there are programs, although not so much in Russia, that help to pay for this assistance and it can often be supplied free of charge.
Alina suffers from a condition called diastrophic dysplasia. According to John Hopkins Medicine, the condition can affect the development of body parts including the hands, face, ears, feet, hip, legs and spine. People with the condition are generally shorter than average in height, as is the case with the TLC reality star.
In her Instagram post, Alina went on to explain that disabled people can design their homes to make everything easily accessible to them, meaning they don’t need that much help from other people. However, she did admit that, as she is renting her apartment in Russia, she hasn’t put too much effort into modifying it for her needs.
In closing, Alina wrote, “And last but not least… we all help each other. Think about how many times you asked someone to do something. Human beings can’t really survive just solo.”
90 Day Fiancé fans were quick to respond to Alina’s words, with one commenting, “Absolutely right,” and another writing, “Thank you for your beautiful insight. #humanitygoals.” Another agreed with the post, writing, “Exactly the person we date can choose to help us or not.” Meanwhile, another noted, “Well written. You are an independent woman with a great roommate.”
Alina decided to star on 90 Day Fiancé to raise awareness to the lives of disabled people. She is now using her following on social media to explain about dating a little person. Alina has quickly become a fan favorite, but Caleb isn’t so popular. Fans cannot forget his look of disappointment on meeting her for the first time and seeing how small she is. Judging generally from their comments on social media, fans don’t have much hope for the TLC reality stars’ relationship.
Keep up with Alina and Caleb on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, Sundays at 8 pm ET on TLC.
