It was recently revealed that 90 Day Fiancé alum Varya Malina had participated in a medical study. However, she suffered serious side effects, leading to her dose being tapered as she gradually left the study. The former TLC reality star has now revealed how much she will get paid for the medical study, even though she had to drop out.
90 Day Fiancé fans know Varya from her appearance with Geoffrey Paschel on Before the 90 Days. Currently, Geoffrey is behind bars serving an 18-year sentence for alleged domestic violence. Meanwhile, Varya is looking after his home, family and pets while he is incarcerated and despite the difficult circumstances, always appears cheerful on social media.
However, Varya recently told her 300K Instagram followers about participating in a medical study. In this post she was far from being her normal happy and bouncy self. Meanwhile, it turns out she suffered scary side effects from the antidepressants taken during the study.
In a recent Instagram post, Malina gave fans more information about the medical study and what it entailed. She explained that she figured it was a “win-win” and signed up for the study. They gave Varya two different antidepressants, slowly increasing the dose while checking out her blood pressure and heart rate.
While the study was supposed to end in early July, with all the side effects, the doctors made the decision to taper her down. Varya went on to list the side effects she was suffering. These included anxiety at first until they increased the dosage. She suffered from vertigo, muscle weakness, dizziness, hand-shaking and illiteracy. Meanwhile, Varya joked about the last side effect, saying that might have nothing to do with the pills.
Despite the fact that she couldn’t continue with the study, the great news is that she will still be paid in full, so she “didn’t suffer for free!” Malina did note that any sane person knows that “free cheese happens only in a mousetrap.” In fact, her post referred to Katniss of Hunger Games, volunteering as a tribute.
While Varya was released from the medical study, with doctors tapering down her dosage of antidepressants, she will still get paid in full. Meanwhile, it is likely that bad side effects are also part of the medical study itself.
As for the cash, she earned an impressive $3,500 for her participation in the medical study.
Learning more about the medical study made 90 Day Fiancé fans wonder if taking a risk with your health is worth the money. One fan wrote, “Don’t do them [sic] trials. There [sic] dangerous.” When another fan told her not to take risks with her health, Varya responded, “I learned it in a hard way.” However, one follower thanked her for enrolling and doing her part to advance the development of a potential future treatment for others.
Judging from the Instagram clip, Varya is back in her normal happy and cheerful state and is hopefully totally over the serious side-effects of the study.
Currently, fans can watch 90 Day Fiancé Sundays at 8 pm EDT on TLC.
