The two of them have been polar opposites when it comes to Nick’s family, and Nick has always been invested in his family, perhaps even overinvested! So it’s like a serious conflict of interest, with Nick feeling torn apart between Phyllis and the Newmans, meaning his siblings and parents.

Phyllis was there for Nick through the trauma of his sister Victoria’s shooting by Amanda Sinclair’s (Mishael Morgan) stalker, even though her presence was not appreciated. Phyllis was there for Nick through Sharon Rosales’ (Sharon Case) battle with breast cancer even though her kindness to Sharon wasn’t understood or always appreciated.
