The patriarch of the USA Network show, Chrisley Knows Best built up a huge fanbase who love his sense of humor. It’s not the sort of humor that appeals to everyone. So, some critics might disagree that he rivals the likes of George Carlin and Sam Kinison. However, one thing about making people laugh is if it doesn’t hit their funny bone it simply falls flat. Sometimes, any comedian faces criticism for insensitive things they might say in jest, and Todd’s no different.
In early August this year, Todd Chrisley joke about the Smithsonian. Just ahead of the premiere of Chrisley Knows Best on August 12, the USA Network popped up a clip on Instagram. It revealed him joking about how one of his “organs ought to go to the Smithsonian.” Well, a lot of people laughed about it. However, others thought it sounded very insensitive. One fan complained that she felt he was disrespectful to people who passed away when they needed things like life-saving kidney donations.
A few outlets picked up on his joke and thought he really aspired to be exhibited in the Smithsonian. Well, if he really does, then he might want to eat his heart out over another Reality TV star. In October last year, the Smithsonian Institute declared 2020 to be the “Year of the Woman,” to commemorate the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage. In fact, it’s quite possible that his joke was aimed at one reality TV star they selected. However, that would only be speculation.
Todd Chrisley might have never read that Jazz Jennings, from I Am Jazz features in the exhibit. If you don’t know, Jazz, classified as a male at birth was diagnosed with gender dysphoria. In time, she and her audience accept that in fact, she’s a woman. Since childhood, she wore pretty dresses, and a few seasons ago, TLC revealed her undergoing bottom surgery. These days, the reality TV star is a recognized national activist for LGBTQ rights
On Sunday, September 12, Jazz shared a photo of herself standing next to her exhibit. She captioned it with, “Great news!!! I feel honored to have my mermaid tail featured at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. It’s part of the Girlhood…It’s [a] Complicated Exhibit, which celebrates women’s contributions to society! I’m so proud to be a woman. ?”
The List reminds I Am Jazz fans that she loved mermaids so much that she started researching them at a young age. “In fact, that she has her own line of custom-designed mermaid tails.” TLC Fans also saw her swimming around in one on the show. Well, Jazz Jennings is a hard act to follow. We don’t know about you, but we don’t see Todd Chrisley going for bottom surgery and swimming around in a mermaid’s tail to star in the famous history museum.
