If you never saw the first show, then you probably don’t know that fans seriously suspected that Carole Baskin had something to do with the disappearance of her ex-husband, Don Lewis. many theories and rumors arose. Ine f them suggested that she possibly killed him and fed him to the big cats. Of course, none of those theories ever became enough to land her in court on a murder charge. Still, fans threw the book at her when she appeared on Dancing with the Stars after the show ended. The family of Don Lewis ran an ad at the time, asking for information about Lewis.
When Tiger King 2 dropped the trailer of the sequel, Carole was furious. In the new show, Joe Exotic is in jail pleading his case. In the trailer, he says, “There’s an innocent man in prison.”He also added, “Everybody from the zoo is out there making money, and I’m paying the price for every one of them people” If you don’t know, Joe sist in prison now for two different murder-for-hire plot counts after he allegedly tried to hire two hitmen to try to kill rival Carole Baskin. Well, Carole didn’t want anything to do with the second series. She also believes that she was wronged, but she blames Netflix for their portrayal of her.
People Magazine reported that when Carole Baskin saw the trailer for Season,2 that she objected. She claimed that Netflix had no right to use the footage of her in it. In their lawsuit, they claimed that “the use of that footage for anything other than the initial documentary violates the release forms that the Baskins signed prior to filming.” The court statement also noted, “While we cannot stop Netflix and Royal Goode Productions from producing low-brow, salacious and sensational programming, we do believe that we have the right to control footage filmed of us under false pretenses.”
News now emerged that Netflix believes that the footage they used for the Tiger King 2 trailer was not in violation of anything. The news came out this week, and Screenrant reported about it. Their court documents claim that Carole and Howard already signed “appearance and location releases in 2019.” So, they fully feel okay with using the footage. Apparently, the original release papers gave them permission for future projects as well. So Netflix’s countered with: “Plaintiffs have no claim at all, much less one that can evade Defendants’ First Amendment.”
Tiger King 2 might not be delayed if things got the way that Netflix feels the lawsuit should. Fans can still hope for the premiere on November 17. Of course, the lawsuit probably only added to the hopes by the audience that more juicy scandals emerge.
