Viewers of The Young and The Restless will remember from recent episodes that Sharon had talked with Faith’s father, Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) about Faith’s drinking and that she needed therapy. Nick had warned her that Faith may not agree with going into therapy, and she may rebel even worse. Faith feels constricted as it is, with someone keeping an eye on her and breathing down her neck every time she moves!
If it’s not Nick or her mom, it’s Rey Rosales, (Jordi Vilasuso), Mariah Copeland, (Camryn Grimes) Lola Rosales, (Sasha Calle) grandma Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) and sometimes even former stepmother Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford)! Faith is not happy with Phyllis who ratted her out to her father about her meeting her older friend Jordan (Madison Thompson) in Chancellor Park and being drunk from vodka!
Phyllis was only trying to protect Faith, as all of her other family and extended family are, but of course, as a rebellious teenager she’s not going to see it that way! Faith is going to see it as control, and the last thing she wants is control! She feels like Jordan and the crowd she hangs out with are the only ones who see Faith the way she really is and still accept her! Faith acted at first like she would listen to her Grandma Nikki’s advice, but now she is even spurning that. Sharon knows she must do something to save her child, and do something quick!
Sharon takes decisive action. In the worst move for a mother to make with a rebellious teenager, Sharon decides to be therapist to her unwilling daughter! Any psychologist would tell her that is absolutely the worst move that Sharon could make, and it will go over like a lead zeppelin with Faith! In other words, Sharon’s scheme will crash and fall apart! For one thing, Sharon is too close to the situation and will not be objective. Objectivity is needed in a therapist, psychologist, or counselor in order to see the whole picture. Sharon will only see her baby needs saving from herself, and worse, make constant comparisons to what happened to Cassie Newman (Camryn Grimes).
She may not do that consciously, but as that has been both her and Nick’s worst fear, namely that Faith would die as a result of her choices, it cannot help but affect her judgment. Sharon might think that she can psych Faith, but Faith is likely to see right through what she is doing and it could backfire on Sharon! Faith could totally reject all her smother love and totally rebel and really get herself into serious trouble! She could even start taking drugs or acting out sexually! It all depends on what Jordan and her friends have access to and what they can introduce her to! Then Faith’s family and extended family will really have something to worry about, if drinking wasn’t enough already!
