To the credit of TPTB, Y&R didn’t bring Hilary back from the dead. Amanda was invented as part of Hilary’s backstory, with new adventures to explore. A reimagined Hevon, in the form of Demanda, was implied and might be arriving.

While Devon doesn’t see Hilary, maybe over time a significant portion of the audience will? Even though fresh plots would be written for James and Morgan to play, it’s reasonable to believe that a Demanda pairing would pale when compared to Hevon.

It’s fair to suggest that the game could be lost if the writing staff is being asked to take this gamble. To-date, Amanda has been a different type of character than Hilary was. But even if Amanda and Devon fall in love, would that pairing be as compelling as when Devon and Hilary coupled?

It is fair to bet that all involved will create solid future work, based on past scripts and the great work Morgan and James combined to provide across the years. Viewers who want an indication of Amanda and Devon’s sustainability can look back at what’s happened since Morgan rejoined the cast in 2019.

Amanda is not a replay of Hilary. That’s because Naya Benedict (Ptosha Storey) followed her parent’s advice and gave her twins up. And that part of Amanda’s developing storyline also serves as a signal.

Devon and Hilary weren’t able to explore her backstory because she didn’t know what the real truth was. Amanda and Hevon have formed a bond because she gained a unique confidant.

Playing off the unwritten aspects of Hilary’s past is a smart way to build trust and friendship between Amanda and Devon. Add in his lingering feelings for Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) and Y&R has established a strong daytime base to build upon.
