Boaz took to social media, telling fans that his departure wasn’t his choice. He also complimented his co-star, telling Ordway, “Working with you has been my absolute pleasure and I can easily say that you are one of the greatest actresses I’ve ever had the privilege to work with. You deserve an Emmy…this year.”
Boaz was absent from the cast in the recent past after testing positive for the virus. During that time Ordway’s real life husband, Justin Gaston (Chance), assumed the role of Chance. Doing so allowed Abby and Chance to marry at the mansion and go on their honeymoon, which proved to be memorable for reasons they didn’t expect.
The fans, like Boaz, weren’t led to believe that Chabs was a short-term couple. According to the actor’s social media statement, Chance is not scheduled to be replaced or killed off. So, Gaston apparently won’t be returning.
Daytime has long been an unstable workplace for all but the main players. So, even though Chance is part of a legacy family he wasn’t seen as vital to the show, or even to his current storyline.
The unusual move of teasing a baby, first through intended pregnancy and then via the seeming start to surrogacy, or adoption, doesn’t feel right. Why invest so many episodes in having Abby fall in love with someone who is surely a good guy only to have Chance depart GC?
Certainly a search for Chance will occur, as he works for the police department. So, whoever called him, on what appears to be Boaz’ final scene, is somehow connected to the reason for his departure.
Chance’s identification of himself as an officer implies that some sort of official business pulls him from Chabs’ life. Might the unresolved issues he engaged in with Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) in Las Vegas, California, be the cause of his drama? Then again, Chance’s past work with another government agency could have required him to be needed in a different part of the world, or to enter the Witness Protection Program, as Dylan McAvoy (Steve Burton) did a handful of years ago.
Nina Webster (Tricia Cast), Chance’s mother, will reappear on Y&R later this week. That or possibly her other son’s, Ronan Malloy (Jeff Branson), investigative work, might eventually provide answers, if not closer, for viewers.
