He also was the winner of a special election to fill the empty seat of John Ferraro after his death. LaBonge was born in October 1953 and died on January 7, 2021.

On Twitter, Braden wrote a special goodbye to the politician, who was also a dear friend of his. The actor wrote, “MY GOOD FRIEND, LONG SERVING LOS ANGELES COUNCILMAN, TOM LABONGE, passed away last night! Tom was one of the nicest men in public life and had served our town with great passion for years! He also was a friend of our show! I must say, this sad news affected many of us deeply!”

The Young and the Restless spoilers reveal that many people called LaBonge “Mr. Los Angeles.” According to the Los Angeles Times, the former councilman often asked residents to name their favorite buildings in the city. He would often hand out calendars with photographs of the city, along with pumpkin bread baked by nuns. He reportedly hiked at Griffith Park every single day and worked to expand the size of it by hundreds of acres.

LaBonge was a friend not just of Braeden, but of the soap too. The actor also shared a picture of him with his friend on the set. Fans had this to say about Braeden’s special message, “I’m sorry to hear this…keeping all of his family & friends in my prayers.”

“So saddened for your loss. My heartfelt condolences to you and to his beloveds. May his memory be a blessing.”
