The Young And The Restless News: Courtney Hope Opens Up About Tragic Past And Personal Struggles

The Young and the Restless star Courtney Hope (Sally Spectra) is opening up about her past in a way that she’s never done so before. The actress, who is best known for her role as Sally Spectra both on Y&R and on The Bold and the Beautiful, recently opened up to General Hospital’s Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) in his YouTube show, State of Mind. Here’s what she has to say.

Courtney spoke about her own mental health and some of the experiences in her life that have helped shape her into the person she is today. For the first time ever Courtney also recalled her brother’s death. She told Maurice, “My brother fell off a cliff when he was probably around 25, 26. He was stargazing and he fell and broke every bone in his body, and he had addiction problems when he was younger, so when he had this accident they put him on painkillers. And so he got addicted to painkillers and then just eventually—they don’t know if it was that or he relapsed with something else, but they found him, and he was 29. And it was really hard for our family.”

And even though she is one of the most stunning women in the daytime television world, Courtney admits that she also struggled with eating disorders when she was younger. She said that she developed anorexia and bulimia and also worked out too much at one point in her life. Courtney said that even though she “broke” her body, she felt like she was in control of it and how she looked even though she went to great lengths to maintain it.

She said, “I did a movie in Bulgaria and I got a parasite, and it slowly started to get worse and worse and worse, where I couldn’t eat literally anything, and I started to get really, really thin. But I was still working out, so I still had my muscle. So everyone was complimenting me and complimenting me on how great I looked and, you know, I was only 19. So at the time, I’m like, ‘Okay.’ I had anxiety; I was on anxiety medication. There was a lot of stuff that I felt like I couldn’t control and that was one thing, I was like, ‘Well, at least I can look good.’”
