There is no doubt that John Finnegan’s (Tanner Novlan) assignment to Steffy’s case changed both character’s lives last summer. Just imagine if the good doctor hadn’t appeared at the foot of her bed.
Is it a stretch to speculate that Steffy would be fully involved in Liam’s current prison circumstances if she hadn’t moved on from him? Instead, Steffy and her fiance, Finn, will joyously deliver their child this month while Hope Spencer (Annika Noelle) is entangled in Liam’s latest problem.
As long as Finn isn’t eventually revealed as a cloaked maniac, then he was the right man to replace Liam. He became Steffy’s next soul mate, father of her next child, fiance, and husband. Liam was pushed out of the top spot because of the contrast Finn offered.
Some longtime Steam fans may always retain the belief that Steffy and Liam are meant to be together. And who knows, they might be again someday. But that doesn’t mean that they should be.
Daytime can be compelling when the drama is fresh. So, Steffy’s hard break from Liam, which was part of the transition to Finn, clearly represents new plot ground.
If TPTB hadn’t created Finn, then Steffy would most likely either be with Liam or she would still be pining for the man who is with Hope. But look at what’s happened to Lope in the past handful of months.
Hope was put through the proverbial wringer by Liam, who thought that he might be the father of Steffy’s child. When that crisis passed and Lope was heading toward yet another reconciliation, Liam hit Vincent Walker (Joe LoCicero), didn’t report the accident because his dad coerced him not to, and now both men are facing serious jail time. During that time Steffy, Finn, their expectant baby, and Kelly Spencer (Avalon and Colette Gray) were enjoying themselves on a series of stops in California.
Steffy fell into the throes of addiction in the recent past. To his credit, Liam was one of the people who helped her work through that. But Finn is the man that Steffy realized was the right choice for her life at this point in time and moving forward.
If Finn never came along, then Steffy’s main focus wouldn’t be delivering the Sinn baby. No, she would be distraught by Liam’s plight. That would be her focus, but it’s not because Finn is Mr. Right.
Sinn now and forever? Probably not, as soapy circumstances change. But having Finn with Steffy has worked out just fine. Those who feel otherwise need only look at Liam’s forced fashion choices and think about Hope shouldering the responsibility of carrying Lope, again.
