According to sources, the move is in recognition that “more needs to be done” for minorities’ rights. Her action comes after Harry and Meghan called her out for institutional racism.
Aides describe a major project involving Buckingham Palace, Clarence House and Kensington Palace, in which a “listen and learn” exercise will take place. This involves speaking to a businesses and individuals about how the Monarchy can improve representation of minority groups.
The paper reports that the Palace will “seek independent views” to analyze and approach diversification to include members of ethnic minorities, the disabled and the gay and trans communities.
To accomplish her goal, the queen may recruit a diversity boss who will be tasked with advocating reform. An inside source said, “This is an issue which has been taken very seriously across the Households.”
‘We have the policies, procedures and programs in place but we haven’t seen the progress we would like and accept more needs to be done. We can always improve.”
The royal source wet on to say, “We are not afraid to look at new ways of approaching it. The work to do this has been under way for some time now and comes with the full support of the family.”
So it appears that the initiative has been on the table according to the source, but perhaps Harry and Meghan’s very public words sped the project along?
In their interview with Oprah Winfrey, they claimed that a family member asked how dark their son Archie’s skin might be.
Winfrey then prompted the couple by saying, “Because they were concerned that if he were too brown, that that would be a problem? Are you saying that?”
Meghan then replied, ‘I wasn’t able to follow up with why, but if that’s the assumption you’re making, I think that feels like a pretty safe one.”
This issue seems of primary importance to Meghan, enough so that she would air the family laundry to a world wide audience. If she had followed up on her initial concern, perhaps the family member would have been able to explain or apologize to her satisfaction?
