British royal family news reveals that the crowd at the Royal Ascot today featured plenty of royals to wow hard-core people watchers. Included were Mike and Zara Tindall who made their first public appearance since the birth of their son Lucas in March.
The first day of the races also brought some downer news, the Queen’s racing manager confirmed that she would not be present.

But the queen’s granddaughter and her former rugby star husband were glamorous and thrilled to be there as were Prince Edward, his wife Countess Sophie Wessex, and Princess Anne. Prince Charles and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall were also in attendance.
Royal Ascot is an annual high point of the British summer season and the merrymakers seemed especially cheerful to be out and about following what many hopes were the worst of the coronavirus pandemic.
After 18 months of Covid restrictions, the racegoers looked festive in colorful dresses plus matching face masks.
Royal Family News – Queen Elizabeth Will Watch Ascot From Home
There are still some restrictions in effect and that was the reason given for Her Majesty’s absence, marking the second time in 69 years that she hasn’t attended the event.
The monarch will be watching the races on television from Windsor Castle however and she has a horse named King’s Lynn running in the King’s Stand Stakes.
John Warren is the Queen’s racing manager and he told Radio 4, “Obviously the Queen would love to attend, as you know she’s fanatic about racing, watching racing and breeding horses, and has been going to Ascot all of her adult life. So, it’s a shame to miss an event.”
He added, “The plan at the moment is to see how it goes towards the latter part of the week and if the Queen’s able to come because she’s got runners, then, fingers crossed, it will happen.”

According to Warren, the monarch is a huge fan of horse racing, and he praised her energy level as “incredible.”
“It’s remarkable,” he said. “The Queen’s energy levels are incredible. She’s 95. She went down to the G7 this week and trundled back on the train in the middle of the night and the energy will be raised higher again for a week like Ascot.”
