British royal family news divulges that Queen Elizabeth held her first engagement on Tuesday following the return home of Prince Philip who had been hospitalized for 28 days.
She participated in a video call with Royal Voluntary Service of which she has been a patron for nearly 70 years.
She shared the video call with the Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, who is the organization’s president.
Both women spoke with RVS volunteers and the queen praised the “wonderful” work of the volunteers who performed great acts during the pandemic, telling them they were a, “great, great help over this difficult year.”
The queen appeared from Windsor Castle, and began the call with a cheery, “Ah good morning. Hello Camilla!”
Camilla was at Clarence House, and asked, “Good morning, how are you?” The call marks the first time that the queen has appeared since the return home of her 99-year-old husband Prince Philip on Tuesday after his release from King Edward VII’s Hospital in London.
During his stay Prince Harry and Meghan Markle conducted a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey and lobbed verbal grenades at the royal family who were not on hand to defend themselves.
Harry and Meghan faced mounting pressure to postpone the interview because Philip was ailing, but the show went on as they say.
Days later tv personality Gayle King defended the couple by claiming they had a kill switch for the program in place all along should the prince die. Thankfully that did not happen and now Philip is resting back at Windsor Castle.
The Queen also sent her “deepest sympathy” to the people of Tanzania following the recent death of the country’s president, John Magufuli.
Magufuli’s death at the age of 61 was announced on Wednesday by Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who said the president died of heart failure.
She announced, “Our beloved president passed on at 6pm this evening,” noting that Magufuli died at a hospital in Dar es Salaam. Although the cause of Magufuli’s death was announced as heart failure, opposition politicians earlier alleged that he was ill with coronavirus.
The Queen stated, “Prince Philip and I were saddened to learn of the death of President John Magufuli. I wish to convey my condolences to his loved ones and my deepest sympathy to the people of Tanzania.”
Hassan has now been sworn in as Magufuli’s successor as president.
