Royal Family News: Prince William, The Throne And The Tabloids: Who Is Controlling Who?

British Royal family news reveals In Prince Harry, Duke Of Sussex and Meghan Markle’s rather seismic interview with Oprah Winfrey last week, the Duke of Sussex suggested that there is a an ‘invisible contract’ between the British Royal Family and the British tabloid press that has been in place for many years and that both parties survive and even depend on it. Yet, there are some royal critics who can’t help but wonder if this is totally true. With Prince William, the throne, and the tabloids, who is actually controlling whom? Here’s what you need to know.

Prince William, The Throne And The Tabloids: Who Is Controlling Who?

During Harry and Meghan’s bombshell of a tell-all with Oprah, Harry gave viewers a little insight to the supposed world that connects the royals to the tabloids and how they both need each other at the end of the day. The royals need the press for positive coverage while the press need the royals to help generate demand.

Harry put it this way, “There is this invisible contract behind closed doors, behind the institution and U.K. tabloids. Well, to simplify it, it’s a case of if you, as a family member, are willing to wine, dine, and give full access to these reporters, then you will get better press. I think everybody needs to have some compassion in that situation. There is a level of control by fear that has existed for generation.”

Harry also said that the institution survives based on that perception. But, some royal critics believe that doesn’t seem to be the case, especially given the fact that they’ve never been invited to these supposed “tabloid holiday parties” at the palace that Meghan talked about.

The British Royal Family And The Tabloids

Yet, when it comes to Prince William, it does seem like he has somewhat of a control of what can and cannot be reported by the tabloids. While Harry and Meghan argued that the palace never stood up for them or negate false stories about them, it seems like William and Kate do get preferential treatment. After all, the palace managed to get Tatler Magazine to delete some of their claims after the Cambridges clapped back at their scathing profile of Kate Middleton. The article claimed that Prince William was obsessed with Carole Middleton and that the Middletons positioned their daughter to meet the prince and essentially trap him into marriage. If that weren’t enough, the palace has also shot down claims that Kate has gotten Botox in the past, while seemingly doing nothing for Meghan.

Yet, when it came to all of the racist headlines about Meghan Markle, nothing was done or said at all. As far as who is controlling the narrative when it comes to the public’s perception of the royal family, it does seem like the tabloids are holding all of the important puppet strings. But when it comes to what can or can’t be said and done, there is a royal hand behind the scenes that does slap everything away.
