Royal Family News: Prince Philip’s Hospital Stay Is Now Indefinite

British royal family news divulges that Prince Philip will not be allowed to leave the hospital for several more days, at least. Buckingham Palace confirmed the news on Tuesday, February 23.

A palace spokesperson told Us Weekly: “The Duke of Edinburgh remains at King Edward VII’s Hospital where he is receiving medical attention for an infection. He is comfortable and responding to treatment but is not expected to leave the hospital for several days.”

Royal Family News – Prince Philip Cannot Leave The Hospital

The 99-year-old prince has marked one week in the hospital since he was hospitalized in London as a “precautionary measure.” His only family visit to date has been from his son, Prince Charles.

The palace first confirmed that Philip was being treated on Wednesday, February 17, telling Us in a statement: “The Duke of Edinburgh will remain in the hospital, on a doctor’s recommendation, for a few days.”

Days later Prince William gave an update on his grandfather. He spoke while on a visit to a coronavirus vaccination center in Norfolk, England. “Yes, he’s OK,” William, 38, said on Monday, February 22. “They’re keeping an eye on him.”

The next day Philip’s son Andrew testified to his father’s health, saying he was doing fine but eager to come home.

Royal Family News – Prince Philip is 99-Years Old

In December 2019 Philip was treated at King Edward VII Hospital several days before Christmas to undergo, “observation and treatment in relation to a preexisting condition.” After four days he was released on Christmas Eve.

The Duke of Edinburgh has been married to Queen Elizabeth II since 1947. At the time of his admittance the palace did not disclose Philip’s condition other than to say it was not coronavirus related.

In January Philip and the 94-year-old queen issued a statement that they received the first dose of the Covid vaccine, breaking longstanding royal protocol that frowned upon releasing medical information.

Royal Family News – When Will Prince Philip Be Released?

It has been an eventful few days for the royals as before Philip was admitted to the hospital, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced that they are expecting their second child.

At the time Buckingham Palace said in a statement, “Her Majesty, Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales and entire family are ‘delighted’ and wish them well.” Next they issued word that they were participating in a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Then the queen issued a statement that the decision had been made that Harry and Meghan were terminated from royal duty, their titles and patronages taken back from the pair who traded royal life for life in America.
