British royal family news divulges that Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, is now back in the country he snubbed for a sunnier, wealthier life in the US. He has returned to the UK for his grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh’s, funeral on Saturday, April 17 and is said to now be quarantining at an empty property on the Queen’s Windsor estate.
Prior to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle abandoning his family for a Cali mansion, they once lived at Nottingham Cottage in Kensington Palace, right next door to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s home, Apartment 1A.
The place is known as Nott Cott and is said to hold fond memories for Prince Harry. Apparently it is the location that Harry proposed to Meghan while the couple were roasting chicken (no word on if a sage cleansing has been held).
The property is now empty, but it has seen a whole host of tenants in years past.
Harry himself occupied the cottage beginning in 2013, making it a man cave worthy of Himself no doubt. Then Meghan moved in in 2017. It was reported that she felt the urge to remake the place, with décor from Soho Home’s Country House collection no less.
Nott Cott is one of the smaller properties on the Kensington Palace estate with just two bedrooms, reception rooms and a kitchen, bathroom and small garden. Those in the know said Harry hung a hammock out back when he moved in.
Nott Cott was designed by renowned architect Christopher Wren and has been home to royals and non-royals alike. Prince William and his wife Kate lived there in 2013 with their newborn son Prince George, while Apartment 1A was being renovated.
Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, and his wife, Princess Alice lived there for a spell as did the Queen’s private secretary Robert Fellowes and his wife Lady Jane Fellowes, Princess Diana’s sister.
The late Prince Philip’s private secretary Sir Miles Hunt-Davis and his wife Anita also resided in Nott Cott. Prior to that the cottage was a property intended for the Queen and Princess Margaret’s childhood governess, Marion Crawford.
Crawford was given the house for life upon her retirement in 1948. But that generous offer was rescinded when it was discovered that she sold stories about the royal family to the media. Sounds like someone else we know.
