Royal Family News: Prince Harry Cancels The Invictus Games Again

British royal family news reveals that Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex has once again been forced to postpone the Invictus Games due to the current coronavirus pandemic. An announcement today reported that the already delayed 2020 The Hague games are now postponed to spring 2022.

A joint statement was issued from Harry, Mart de Kruif, Chair of the Invictus Games The Hague 2020 and Sir Keith Mills, Chair of the Invictus Games Foundation and read: “For so many around the world, the Invictus community included, COVID-19 has changed our expectations, hopes, and plans. But our unwavering mission is one bound by resilience and community — and that mission will continue to shine through between now and Spring 2022, when we hope to see everybody in person again in The Hague.”

Royal Family News – The Invictus Games Are Postponed Again

A new date has not yet been announced. But it will be sometime between March and June, in the northern hemisphere’s spring.

The event sees hundreds of wounded, injured or sick servicemen and women from 20 countries come together to compete.

Wouter Bakker, Captain of the Dutch Invictus Games team said in response to the news, “Given the current corona situation, the news comes as no surprise.”

Royal Family News – COVID Has Derailed The Invictus Games

Many events have been held virtually due to COVID but he added that an online competition wouldn’t be feasible.

“A digital variant or organizing the event without an audience would not feel like an Invictus Games to me and does not do justice to the spirit of the Games. I, as well as my teammates, think that moving the event to the Spring of 2022 is the best decision.”

Nonetheless it is reported that during the week the Invictus Games were to be held in May there will be some activities across the globe to commemorate the Games.

Royal Family News – The Invictus Games Will Be Commemorated

Now that The Hague competition is postponed, the 2022 games in Düsseldorf were moved to the European summer of 2023.

Prince Harry debuted the Invictus Games in 2014 in London. In 2016 they were held in Toronto, which marked his first public outing with then-girlfriend and now wife Meghan Markle.

In 2018, the event was held in Sydney and once again was a platform for a personal announcement from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Not only was it their first international tour since their wedding, they announced their pregnancy at that time.
